WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE OR SKILLS DO I NEED TO HAVE?
Simply put, we welcome all ages, backgrounds and abilities. There really is something for everyone. For our outdoor projects, we can always use volunteers who have tools, and are familiar with yard care, just as much as we can use volunteers who assist with cleanup. All of our volunteer services are non-professional.
WHO PROVIDES THE TOOLS?
Safety First. We ask that all volunteers using power equipment to use PPE such as safety goggles, ear protection and other recommended gear specific to the tool being used. OSHA provides guidance and helpful resources on the hazards of yard work and solutions. Click Here Appropriate clothing based on the project and any tools being used is always important. Volunteers are not permitted to use senior homeowner’s power tools because we do not know the tool and any potential safety issues it may have.
CARE can provide some tools for volunteers who do not have them on the day of the volunteer service. Most often these are tools that are used for yard care and are manual such as clippers, shears, rakes, loppers etc. Volunteers are permitted to bring their own power tools for yard care but should review what they are ahead of time to ensure they are appropriate.
For handyperson projects, volunteers should have their own tools.
